Many people assume that when the braces come off, treatment is over. However, that is simply not true at all. Although there may no longer be brackets and wires on your teeth or clear aligners you need to swap out regularly, you will be required to wear a customized retainer or oral appliance in Oklahoma City immediately following treatment. Contact our orthodontic office to find out more about the retention phase and what you can expect.

Retainers

There are two types of retainers: removable and fixed. Designed to keep teeth in their new location, retainers are made to fit teeth comfortably and easily. Depending on your unique needs, Dr. Ishani will decide which type of appliance you need. With removable retainers, you can take them out to clean, eat, or drink. With a fixed retainer, you’ll be required to learn how to maneuver around your retainer to ensure it remains healthy and clean. By continuing to wear your retainer based on the designated timeline provided by your orthodontist, you can rest assured that your new smile will remain firmly in place for a lifetime.

Herbst Oral Appliances

With a Herbst oral appliance, you can feel more comfortable knowing that this device will help to correct your bite without the need for bulky headgear. Created for individuals with severe bite misalignment, they are commonly recommended if you suffer from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder and/or sleep apnea. Not only is it comfortable to wear, but it helps to enlarge your airway, take pressure off your facial muscles and joints, and it is adjustable and approved by Medicare.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Bruxism is the act of clenching and grinding your teeth. Without proper treatment, it can lead to chronic jaw pain and worn-down tooth enamel. However, with a customized nightguard, your upper row of teeth remains protected against any possible damage caused by grinding or clenching. Instead, the device creates a barrier to safeguard pearly whites while also taking the tension off jaw joints for a more restful night’s sleep.

Athletic Mouthguards

Playing sports may be something you and your children enjoy, but if you’re not equipping them and yourself with the proper mouth protection, you’re putting everyone at risk. With a custom-made athletic mouthguard, we can provide comfortable and effective dental appliances that are designed to absorb unnecessary pressure placed against the mouth. Not only does this cut down on the potential for visits to the emergency dentist in Oklahoma City, but it also allows you and your loved ones to keep your natural teeth longer.
