When it comes to correcting misaligned teeth, braces are a tried-and-true solution. They are versatile for a wide range of crookedness and crowding, and you might’ve started your own journey for your orthodontic issues. You will need to build a solid routine to keep your treatment on track, but working with them might seem like a challenge. Here are five tips to make sure caring for them during your shift is easy.

Avoid Biting on Pen Caps and Pencils

As you’re working, you might gnaw at pen caps or the end of your pencils. This might be a habit while you’re thinking, but doing so can break your wires or brackets. Not only that, but you may accidentally chip your tooth. The same thing goes for your fingernails, so try using a fidget toy, like a stress ball, if you need something to distract you.

Keep a Bottle of Water Handy

For many adults, coffee is a vital part of the day. It gives the energy you need, but this beverage is acidic and sugary. Overindulgence can lead to decay and stains, so it’s best to limit how many cups you have. Thankfully, you don’t have to quit your favorite brew entirely, but taking sips of water in between can reduce your risk of trouble.

Pack Lunch from Home

Hard, crunchy, and sticky foods can break the new hardware in your mouth. So, you’ll need to change your diet to avoid orthodontic emergencies. Finding a restaurant nearby that can make smile-friendly meals can be tough. Instead, bring lunch from home. That way, you know exactly what is on your plate and avoid issues.

Make a Braces Kit

After eating, you will need to clean your braces. This can be tough without the right tools, so make a pouch that has all your essentials. A travel toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, floss threaders, and dental wax are a few items you should have handy. Pain relievers and lip balm are a few other good things to pack.

Get Started Showing Off Your Smile

In the end, it doesn’t hurt to start showing off your smile. While you might feel self-conscious of the brackets and wires, you’re taking the time to straighten your teeth. By getting a head start now, you can feel prouder about the grin you’re investing in.
